The display on my thermostat seems to be fading lately. I remember it having a much brighter display when we first installed it. Do the batteries on the thermostat require replacement after a few years?
I think the batteries in the correct direction. I put them in wrong initially. The thermostat will initially show the wrong temperature. it will adjust in a couple of minutes.I recently changed the batteries and now the heat or air will not kick on. The symbol for air or heat will flash on the screen approximately then click the symbol.
I'd say with just about any electronic equipment a fading screen indicates it's getting low on batteries. Hopefully, it's just a battery issue and not something more serious.
You can do it in five simple steps:
1. Release the external battery holder from the thermostat housing by pressing down on the tab on the top edge of the thermostat.
2. Remove the batteries from the holder by pushing them out with your finger through the access hole in the holder.
3. Place new alkaline batteries into the slots as indicated on the holder.
4. Push the battery holder into the slot on the thermostat until it snaps into place.
5. Remove the thermostat cover from the wall plate to replace the batteries if your unit does not have an external battery holder. Push the thermostat cover back into place until it snaps into position.
